TWW Friending Meme

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
I couldn't find anything that said this wasn't allowed here, and didn't hear otherwise, so...I thought I'd share it here, because I loves me some fellow Josh/Donna peeps.

I just got into The West Wing fandom a few months ago. I've been loving it so much (everybody I've talked to is so friendly, intelligent, fun, welcoming), but I'd love to step in and officially introduce myself to everyone, and meet and befriend more West Wing people bopping around LJ. I've seen friending memes out there, had good experiences with them, so I thought I'd give one a shot! Old and new faces to the fandom are welcome! Most of you have probably done these before, but why pass up another chance to connect with some new people in the fandom and make some new friends? Mix, mingle, friend away!

The Rev Philip Morgan

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 8:51 PM

Philip Morgan was deeply rooted in the Churches of Christ (or Disciples) tradition and was driven by a deep ecumenical commitment. The Churches of Christ had their origins in the United States in the 19th century, drawing on elements from congregational and presbyterian polity. They practised believers' baptism, weekly Holy Communion as the central act of worship and emphasised the ministry of the laity.

Morgan's lifetime's ministry did not at any time waver from the deep conviction expressed Read more... )

Why are we asking this now?

Wendy Alexander, who leads the Labour Party north of the border, has startled a lot of her political colleagues ? not least, Gordon Brown ? by suddenly announcing that she wants a referendum on Scottish independence, and she wants it now. "I don't fear the verdict of the Scottish people," she said. "Bring it on."

This was a remarkable departure from normal Labour Party policy, which is to preserve the unity of the United Kingdom. Read more... )

Do you have a Doctor Who community or a journal that we are not currently linking to? Leave a note in the comments and we'll add you to the [info]who_daily reading list.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Because of the high posting volume and the quantity of information linked in each newsletter, [info]who_daily will no longer link fanfiction that does not have a header. For an example of what a "good" fanfic header is, see the user info. Please note, the fic must have a header with the fic, not just in the link post, in order to be added to the newsletter. Thank you.

Four police officers shot dead in Tacoma

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 8:21 PM
Author: Associated Press staff

Officials at the scene told The News Tribune in Tacoma two gunmen burst into the Forza Coffee Co. and shot the four uniformed officers as they were working on their laptop computers, then fled the scene.

Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said investigators believe the officers were targeted, and it was not a robbery.

Troyer tells the newspaper "it was just a flat out ambush."

He could not immediately say what agency Read more... )

There is a profound separation in his life, the certain distinction between that looming, grimacing presence on the rugby field ? when it seems as though that 6ft 4in frame is the very essence of all our distilled rage ? and the insouciant, almost languid figure off the pitch. Burger, of course, is not the first performer to be so utterly transformed in taking to the field, and sport is nothing if not a means to reimagine so much of yourself.

But then how do we reconcile the man who is so Read more... )

For decades it has been seen a problem solely for women - being made to feel insecure by images of the "perfect body".

But now it seems that men too can also feel intimidated. New research suggests that adverts with male models showing off "six-pack" bodies are seen by more than half of men as unfair images that pressure them to become muscle-bound hunks.

The study of 140 men in England and Wales found that the long-standing complaints from women about "unreal" body shapes used on Read more... )

Rain & Heat by Angeweeks (NC-17)

.

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt
Length: 1859 & 3058 words.
Author on LJ: [info]angeweeks
Author Website: List of stories posted to [info]lifein1973

Why this must be read:

I thought I’d end my month of driving the Cortina van with another great example of how it’s possible to write PWP and keep everyone beautifully in character.

Gene is a difficult character to capture in stories. Not only is there the matter of his voice, the extraordinary way he has of expressing himself but also a matter of his sense of humour. Ange is amongst the handful of writers in our fandom who nails him every time. Ahem... *g*

Excerpt: “Look. I'm too bloody old to play silly beggars. I'm pretty sure I don't look like the Milk Tray man, so don't expect me to come swinging through yer window with a box of chocolates hanging out me arse. But one of the things I can pride myself on is being honest with my team. So you need to listen carefully to me, Tyler.” He removed a cigarette packet from his pocket, took one out, threw the packet on the kitchen table. He lit up; Sam briefly considered remonstrating with Gene but could see from his demeanour this was not the time to lecture him on health issues.

Characters: Danny, Jordan, Matt, Simon
Rating: PG-13

Spoilers: Up to 1.11 (The Christmas Show)
A/N: These are just a couple of 'extra scenes' from The Christmas Show. My first attempt at any S60 writing, so I'm just colouring bits in until I get the hang of the characters.
