ten don't go

GIP

We've gone a bit Doctor Who mad here the past few weeks, because both Watch and BBC 3 have been showing different seasons each weeknight, one a 6pm and one at 7, so it's been a veritable fest of awesome hair and geeky glasses.

But this icon says it all about the one thing I'm not looking forward to this Christmas *sob*

On a brighter note though, if you haven't already seen this post, then I suggest a visit may well brighten your day, as I think there's something there for everyone!

wtf?

[info]gatsbyfan posted a fabulous video of Bohemian Rhapsody a la muppets the other day, and it reminded me of something.

Much as I love the song, I can't hear it nowadays without recalling the stupendous version which was released by Bad News in the 90s.

For anyone who's in doubt, it's a spoof by the guys from The Comic Strip, Peter Richardson, Ade Edmondson, Rik Mayall and Nigel Planer - and yes, it is Bryan May totally cocking things up on the guitar! I've just listened to it for the first time in ages, and seriously, I've got tears rolling down my face and Mr Caz has just handed me my asthma inhaler.

You're 'avin a larf, intcha?

A while back, I posted links to some clips on You Tube from the kids' show Horrible Histories, which I still maintain is one of the best comedy shows the Beeb has come up with in a long time.

There was one particuar sketch I couldn't find, but it's one of my absolute favourites and now the series is being repeated it reminded me to see if I could find it - and here it is!

For anyone who comes into contact regularly with teenagers it's frighteningly accurate :-)

I give you The Story of Helen of Troy, teen-mag style.

Well wikkid, innit?

crikey!

The best comedy show on TV?

My kids are absolutely hooked on Horrible Histories, a sketch show on CBBC that's based on the best-selling series of books by Terry Deary.

It's really clever - telling kids about history in different periods by using things they're familiar with. One segment is "Historical Wife Swap" - and there are parodies of chat shows ("So, Chronos. Tell us - why did you eat your children?") and game shows etc. and there's usually a "song of the week", too.

So the kids watch it and record it and then watch it several times during the week - and I have to say, I quite enjoy it too, when I'm around.

This sketch had me rolling around in stitches -

(Anyone who has subjected themselves to daytime TV will recognise that one!)

- and last week's episode featured a fantastic sketch about Helen of Troy. I haven't been able to find it on YT yet, but I'll post a link when I do because it was hilarious.

If you've not seen the show, check it out on iPlayer - it's fun!

ETA - Caz minor just pointed me to this one :-)

And this one!

My contract arrived in the post this morning - and the good news is it starts on April 1st (!) so I'll get paid over the Easter Holiday! Even better is the fact that my current contract doesn't run out until April 19th, so I'll have an extra few quid - although that won't last long before it gets swallowed up.

And here's some funny that's doing the rounds at school -

Dumbing down? Surely not! )

Lemme tell ya - from what I've seen, that's not so far from the truth!

I was just going through my icon folders and stumbled across this, which I must have saved ages ago and never got around to using.

Kudos -

To whoever wrote the last episode of Leverage that I watched. Nate has the choice of three aliases at the airport - Peter Davidson, Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker! Heheeeee!

And Sophie's is Sarah-Jane.

Somebody knows their Doctor Who.

Oh, and nice little A-Team ref at the end :-)

I'm liking this show more and more - can you tell? *g*

Taking a break from the serious ranting I've been doing today; having had a couple of days off has also given me time to watch some more TV! I can't remember the last time I managed to watch this much ;-) But anyway, I've started watching Leverage which I like a lot.

I remember when I first read the premise - bunch of ex-cons scam really bad guys - thinking that it sounded somewhat like the BBC's Hustle, which has been running for a few years now. And it's pretty much the same set up, with certain changes to the group (2 women instead of one, no Robert Vaughn!), and it's a lot slicker and more hi-tech. If you've not seen Hustle it's worth checking out, especially the earlier seasons, with Adrian Lester and Marc Warren.

But Leverage is great. I like the characters, it's fun and funny and best of all, the writing doesn't make me wince in pain! I've watched six episodes, I think, so still have a few to go, and am beginning to wonder whether Gina Bellman can do other accents!

Oh, and I was just sent a link to this rather amusing little compliation. Every car should have one :-)

crikey!

Bwahahaha!

I just spotted this article in The Independent (now available at LJ as [info]ti_news for anyone who's interested) - a voxpop on how people of different nationalities view the British.

In reverse order, my favourites are;

3. 'I love the fact you have such extremes, from the aristocrat to the football hooligan'

2. 'You drink a lot, and the women wear very little. It's five degrees and they have so much flesh on show. Don't they feel the cold?' Clearly, these people were observing chavdom at its height.

and the winner is -

1. 'Why are they so obsessed with celebrities? You open a paper, and there is Lily Allen. Where is all the proper news?'

Heh. That'll be even funnier to fans of The Now Show!

Heh.

Mr Caz told me earlier that he went swimming today. To the Over Fifties session. *snigger*

The woman at the desk, who probably recognised him from when he takes the girls, looked at him a bit suspiciously and pointed out that the session was only open to people over fifty.

He thanked her for the compliment and said he'd still like a ticket, please.

But then she asked if he was over sixty, because then he'd get in for free.

Some people don't know to quit while they're ahead, do they?

Dicking about... ;-)

As my trusty beta readers will tell you, I continually struggle to avoid horrible clichés when writing smut. Whether I actually manage it or not, I'll leave for readers to judge, but you know the ones; throbbing members and pulsating manhoods are probably the ones I fear the most!

So this one's for my fellow strugglers - On the Subject of Penises, in which the writer tries to find the best way to describe said rods of steel. *snort!*

WARNING - DO NOT READ WHILE EATING OR DRINKING!!

It's hard to select just a few gems because the piece is full of them, but here are some favourites - )

See? I warned you about the eating and drinking!!

I had a pretty crappy day yesterday. I don't know why, but most of my classes were real PsITA, even the ones which are usually okay. Those are the days when I end up wondering whether I really know what the hell I'm doing in a classroom.

I was cheered up when I (finally) got home to find my DVD of Iron Man had arrived - but I only managed to watch an hour of it before I had to go to bed. Otherwise, I'd have fallen asleep on the sofa!

the rest )

I leave you with this -

I was browsing all the gadgets over at Blogger and came across this. The WW geeks on my flist will get why I found this amusing.

More procrastination

Because yeah, I have work to do.

But this is funny - from a book entitled F in exams - the best test paper blunders. Some of them are a bit familiar, but what the hell. I found numbers 11 and 23 particularly edifying :-)
